FIDO
The FIDO (Fast IDentity Online) Alliance is an open industry consortium launched in 2013 with the mission to eliminate the world's over-reliance on passwords. Comprising major tech companies, financial institutions, and government agencies, the Alliance develops and promotes interoperable, open authentication standards. Their flagship protocols—including UAF, U2F, and FIDO2 (which encompasses WebAuthn)—enable secure, phishing-resistant, passwordless logins using biometrics, mobile devices, and hardware security keys. By establishing these universal standards and driving the global adoption of passkeys, the FIDO Alliance fundamentally transforms how users securely verify their digital identities online.
